Meeting Minutes

May 22, 2014

The meeting was called to order at 7 pm by President Becky Weitzke.

In attendance: Oren Campbell, Gay Campbell, Rose King, Gloria Linch, Liz Tarbet, Kaye Sodt, Barbara Scott, Linda Fogg, Andrea Sternin, Jackie DeFazio, Ann Neupert, Cindy Walters, David Menard, Bill Thorn, Nancy Patton, Karen Schmidt, Tamara Drake, Becky Weitzke.

Reports:

Secretary–Minutes of the April 24 meeting were approved as presented.

Treasurer—Rose King reported checking balance: $8,581.02. Expenses: $500 Gift to Darrington Friends of the Library memorial; $450.00 Alex Zerbe (summer reading program kickoff). Income: book sale $131.75; memberships $70.00; donation $80; interest $1.15.

Vice President: One new membership this month.

President: Becky read a thank you from the Darrington Friends of the Library for our gift in honor of their retired librarian Linda McPherson, lost in the Oso mudslide.

Advisory Board: Oren Campbell reported that the board is replacing Bill Thorn June 1. Applications are being accepted for a new member.

Sno-Isle: Nancy Patton reported on the May 8 Friends appreciation event. Nancy Pearl’s presentation was recorded and can be viewed on the Sno-Isle website. Nancy also passed around a list from Nancy Pearl of recommended books.

Camano Island Library: David Menard said the summer calendar is now out, including summer reading program events the Friends have funded. David submitted an invoice for the presenters.

Jim Shipley presented a program about the Crab Cracker publication he and his wife produce.

Old Business

Program Committee: Oren is looking for others to serve with him on this committee.

Nominating Committee: Ann Neupert reported that she and Martha Huyler have these nominees for officers: Becky Weitzke for president, Oren Campbell for VP, Linda Fogg for treasurer, Norma Mouton for secretary. President and treasurer will serve 2 year terms; VP and secretary 1 year to get back on the regular schedule.

New Business:

CILF website: Tamara Drake reported that she had met with Melissa Mezzone about managing the website that has been passed over to the Friends. Discussion about the title can take place at June meeting. Tamara thinks of the website as providing info on upcoming events and the library renovation.

Picnic: Liz Tarbet agreed to take on the organization of this summer event. We could provide children’s activities such as face painting. This event will be planned in June.

Library location: Jackie DeFazio reported that the lease for the current library site has been extended through May 2105.

Ann Neupert mentioned that she is still storing signs from the past bazaar; we can use them to publicize upcoming events.

Becky brought up the in-library book sale. Becky suggested selling books at the summer picnic. Suggestion to publicize the sale in the Crab Cracker.

Meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m. Next meeting: June 26, 7 pm.
