The President called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.

The meeting began with the program. Oren Campbell introduced our speaker, pro-baseball coach, Andy Bottin. He spoke of his experience with the Mariners and the Everett Aqua Sox. Mr. Bottin has been with the Mariners for 21 years and before he was with the Seattle Police Department.

Reports

Secretary: Gay Campbell moved to accept the minutes as emailed. Jackie DeFazio seconded the motion and the motion was passed.

Treasurer: Linda Fogg presented the Treasurer’s report stating that we had a balance of $11,254.34. Our expenses included $8.64 for the Summer Reading Program and $25.98 for the BLUhost.com website. Our total income was $143.43 which included $1.40 in interest as of October 31 and book sales in the amount of $142.03.

VP/Membership: Oren Campbell advised us that memberships expire at year’s end. He suggested that current members might consider giving memberships to their friends and neighbors as Christmas gifts. Oren also told us that the membership card has been updated and will be ready in about 6 weeks.

President: Becky Wietzke had no report.

Advisory Board: There was no report from the Advisory Board.

Sno-Isle: Nancy Patton advised us that Stanwood’s annexation vote passed with 80%. She also recapped the focus on membership and recruitment that surfaced at the September 7th Friends and Board Forum. She related that United for Libraries, the national Friends group has two webinars available on the subject. The Foundation has agreed to purchase four licenses to show the webinars at Lynwood, the Service Center, Snohomish and Coupeville. The viewing event will be held after the first of the year. Both webinars of about 1 hour each will be shown with a break and refreshments served between each webinar.

Camano Island Library: David Menard mentioned a fundraising possibility. Some libraries sell flash drives for $5.00. The actual cost of each flash drive is $3.00 making $2.00 on each sale. David said that he would submit the new membership form for printing and reiterated that it would take about six weeks to get the forms back. He is still working on the Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Reading project.

Old Business

Tamara Drake showed the group a preview of the web site. The site would have the minutes and would archive those. The 2010 web site had a paypal link for membership, but most pages on that old site are not operable. The new site would cost us $26.00 per year. The URL for the new site would be www.camanoislandlibraryfriends.org.

Jackie DeFazio moved that we pay for and maintain the new web site and transfer archives from any previous sites as feasible. Liz Tarbet seconded the motion and it was passed.

Karen Schmidt moved that we make a donation for the third-grade reading program. Ann Neupert seconded the motion and it passed.

New Business

The suggestion was made that we invite local principals to come to a future Friends meeting to talk about literacy. This could be used as a way to introduce them to the Rock ‘em Sock ‘em reading program.

The program for January will include the editor in chief of Northwest Mom magazine.

The program for February could be the principals of Utsalady and Elger Bay elementary schools.

Liz Tarbet asked if we wanted to continue our membership in the Chamber of Commerce. The cost is $140.00 per year. Jackie DeFazio commented that she considered it a good investment for the PR it give us.

Jackie DeFazio moved that we renew our membership in the Chamber of Commerce and Karen Schmidt seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Our next meeting is scheduled for December 18th and will include a short business meeting. Members are encouraged to bring treat to share and to invite their friends and neighbors.

After the enthusiastic reception of our speaker it was suggested that we find a game to attend as a group in June or later. It was mentioned that Sno-Isle has a game day that we can tie in to.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:10pm.

Respectfully submitted.

Norma A. Mouton,

Secretary
